Ukraine begins anti-terror operation in Donetsk region
Ukraine's interim president Olexander Turchynov says the operation will be conducted ‘step by step, responsibly, cautiously’.
The aim of the operation is ‘protecting Ukrainian citizens’, ‘stopping the terror and crime and preventing the attempts to tear the country apart’, UNIAN quotes Turchinov.
The preparation for the anti-terrorist operation took a few days. Special police and army troops, APCs and helicopters were brought to the eastern provinces.
Slovyansk, one of the separatists’ strongholds, is situated in the south of Donetsk Oblast.
