“Banned” EU products reach Russia from Belarus
The Russian agricultural inspectorate has reported the issue.
According to the inspectorate, over 80 illegal import attempts from Belarus have been prevented since the introduction of Russia’s EU sanctions. The products are being transported without the necessary documents but their origin can be revealed with the help of an expertise. Sometimes European products are transported with Belarusian documents and the documents say that they were produced in Belarus.
In particular, the check-ups conducted in Moscow, Moscow and Tver Oblasts on August 27 and September 13 ‘revealed a wide range of agricultural products exported from Greece, Spain and Poland’, the inspectorate reported.
The monitoring of Belarusian products may be enhanced due to the increasing import of ‘banned’ products, head of the Russian Agricultural Inspectorate Sergei Dankvert told ITAR-TASS a few days ago.
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the order forbidding the import of food from the EU, USA, Canada, Japan and Austria on August 6. It was Russia’s response to the sanctions imposed on Russian officials and organizations. The import of beef, pork, poultry, fruit, vegetables, cheese, dairy products, nuts and other goods was forbidden, BelaPAN reports.
