Makei: Conflict in Ukraine may lead to another cold war
The collegium of the Belarusian and Russian Ministries of Foreign Affairs is meeting in the Belarusian capital today, on November 18.
The conflict in Ukraine has brought the world on the verge of another ‘cold war’, Belarusian Minister for Foreign Affairs Uladzimir Makei said opening the meeting in Minsk on Tuesday.
"The political crisis in Ukraine has created a high level of mutual mistrust,” RIA Novosti quotes Makei.
Part of Donets Basin territory is controlled by militants instead of the Ukrainian authorities. A ceasefire agreement was reached in September but battles continue every day and people keep dying. Over 4 thousand peaceful citizens have already been killed in the conflict and over 9 thousands have been wounded, the UN reported on October 31.
The West is accusing Russia of assisting militants in Donets Basin. The annexation of Crimea and this assistance resulted in sanctions imposed on Moscow.
