Governmental Union of Writers popularizes itself at the expense of rivals
Vasil Bykau’s books have been displayed at Minsk International Book Fair organized by the Union of Writers of Belarus.
The unofficial Union of Writers published the books. By the way, the People’s Writer was a member of the unofficial union.
This is not the first time the official organization is making use of the other union’s achievements, head of the Union of Belarusian Writers Barys Pyatrovich told Euroradio.
Pyatrovich: "They took our name first – we were called the Union of Writers of Belarus until 1995. Then they took our House (The Literary Man’s House. – Euroradio). Now they are going to mark the 80th anniversary of our organization although it is pretty strange for a union founded in 2006. And now they have started using our editions.”
However, the Union of Belarusian Writers is not going to make any statements. It is enough that the scandal will be made public, Pyatrovich thinks.
By the way, the first collections of Vasil Bykau’s works are displayed at the exposition. They include the works written by Bykau at the end of his life – Prypavesti and the opposition tale Afghan.
