Brest “silent” protester beaten during detention
He tried to protect the others from plainclothes strangers.
Aleh’s cellmate, Yury Nestser, has informed Radio Liberty about it. Aleh was detained when he took the side of another detained person on July 6. He was dragged into a police car and than into a van. Aleh told his cellmates that he was made to lie down on the floor and that policemen started booting him and trampling on him. The policemen broke his finger, ribs and damaged some other organs. His glasses were also broken. Then he was delivered to the police office.
Aleh was accused according to two administrative articles at a time – participation in an unauthorized manifestation and disobedience to the police. He was arrested for 15 days. Aleh is still serving his sentence in Brest Lenin District detention centre.
