Nyaklyayeu: It looked like they wanted to forbid me to breathe
The politician has commented on the recent decision of Lenin District Court.
The police suggested imposing new restrictions on Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu, leader of the campaign “Tell the Truth”. As a result, the court has forbidden him to leave the country and to take part in mass events. The politician is not allowed to leave Minsk without a written permission of the police. Nyaklyayeu will have to register in the police and stay at home from 8 p.m. till 6 a.m. the next day. Policemen also wanted to forbid the politician to go to cafes and restaurants but the court turned down the suggestion.
Let us remind you that Nyaklyayeu was sentenced to two years of suspended imprisonment for “mass riots” in May.
Euroradio has asked Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu to comment on the new sentence.
Euroradio: Won’t you leave Belarus and take part in mass actions anymore? It turns out that you will not only be forbidden to take part in opposition actions. You will not be able to attend the match of BATE and “Barcelona” either…
Nyaklyayeu: “It looked like they did not only want to forbid me to attend football matches; they wanted to deprive me of the right to breathe. I am an even-tempered person and I can tell the difference between righteous and unnecessary risk. I simply took part in the county’s political and social life. And I will continue acting this way, I will take the risk and do the things I have to do as a politician and a citizen.
However, not noticing the things that are happening, the things they are doing to political prisoners, is more than political struggle. It is vandalism, it’s like the Middle Ages. The authorities want us to put up with it, to live with it… It seems that I have to thank them for having allowed me to have a drink at a restaurant and go home afterwards. No court decisions and orders can stop normal people from trying to get out of this madhouse”.
