Trade Ministry demands that entrepreneurs use Belarusian rubles
Decree of Alyaksandr Lukashenka increased penalties for the illegal use of foreign currency as a means of payment.
Trade Ministry of Belarus noted that the entrepreneurs are to conduct business operations with consumers using Belarusian rubles. Our country's law provides that commodity prices are to be indicated only in rubles. The same applies to online stores.
Officials noted that settlements in foreign currency are possible only in cases stipulated by the law. Department of Commerce warned that doing otherwise is a gross violation. As a result, operations of the commercial facility or online shop can be suspended.
It will be considered a violation to display prices of goods, tariffs for work and services in foreign currency in advertisement (the same applies to online advertising). If the advertiser does not have permission to conduct payments in foreign currency, they will be fined.
BELTA notes that tougher penalties for illegal use of foreign currency as a means of payment is provided by the presidential Decree 49 of January 9 this year.
