Ukraine asks International Criminal Court to investigate Maidan events
The International Criminal Court receives a request from the Ukrainian government to investigate the deaths of protesters during clashes in Kiev.
The country is asking the court to investigate the events that took place in Kiev Maidan from November 21, 2013 until February 22, 2014.
The appeal does not mean that the investigation will be conducted, RBK notes. However, it will allow the prosecutor to start an investigation if the presented information is enough for further actions.
A prosecutor of the Internal Criminal Court may also request arrest warrants for people accused of crimes.
Ukrainian Minister of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov accused Berkut members of having shot at protesters earlier. About 100 people were killed during the clashes in Kiev on February 18-20.
