African swine fever also in northern Belarus

According to the residents of the village of Khraky in Hlybokaye district, a wild boar was killed not far from the nearby village of Hrazi. The lab tests run on the animal's meat revealed the African swine virus. Local officials ordered the villagers to destroy all pigs by the evening of Saturday.

Here is what one of Kraly residents told Euroradio:

"Because of this situation, the villages of Khraly, Ives, Zavulak, Sho - at least four villages that I know of are ordered to kill all pigs. The warning was issued by a vet."

When asked to produce an official paper, the vet doctor  said the paper was with the rural council. A resident of Khraly said she went to the rural council in Psuya but found no written order - just a verbal communication.

Resident of Khraly: "It turned in the course of conversation [with rural council's officials] that no documents would be presented. I was told to stop being pain in the neck and kill the pigs. Otherwise, they would come tomorrow and take them all by themselves."

Another villagerv told Eurorad that the sound of screaming swine and the noise of blowtorches could be heard in the village. "Well, nothing much else can be done. If you don't kill, they will come and take it and we will do nothing," said the villagers.
