Folklore specialists and Russian language teachers will not be trained next year. The number of classes for the Russian and Belarusian languages has been cut at secondary schools, while arts culture has been crossed out of the curriculum. Those specialists used to be trained by the Belarusian State Pedagogical University. It will resume these courses when there will be a shortage of specialists in the mentioned fields.
In order to avoid overloading the labor market with professionals in the same field, unibversities call for applications once in several years regarding certain courses. For example, it is possible to enroll for Belarusian Language and Literature/Lithuanian language course and Belarusian language and literature/Polish language course once in two years.
Specialists from recruitment agencies say that speaking a foreign language has long become an additional option rather than a profession.
“Philology specialists are not in demand just like translators. Foreign language is an additional option; it is a not a profession", Secret of Success recruitment agency told the European Radio for Belarus.
The Belarusian Academy of Arts has also been sticking to one-in-several years scheme. Production designers are trained once in six years. Puppet theater actors, musical theater actors and musical directors are trained once in four years.
After a long break, there has been a demand for directors of documentary films and animation directors. Last time students were enrolled was over ten years ago. But under the order from the Ministry of Culture, new courses -- producing manager in cinematography will be launched next year. In 2011, Playwright/Editor course will also be opened.
New professionals are required in connection with the construction of a nuclear power plant in Astravets. They will be trained in four universities: Belarus State University, Belarus National Technical University, Belarus State University of Ecology. 220 people will be recruited by these universities annually.
Sales managers has remained the most demanded, especially when they have technical background. These are people who make profit for companies.
