Aramnau to return presidential scholarship when he becomes world champion
The Belarusian Olympian disqualified for two years may be exempt from the punishment soon.
Andrei Aramnau has been detained for drunken driving by the driving inspectorate twice during the last few months. That is why he has been disqualified for two years and deprived of the presidential scholarship.
His coach Maxim Saladar has been punished together with the sportsman. He has also been deprived of his part of the presidential scholarship he started receiving after his pupil won at the Olympic Games in Beijing. The chief manager of the national weightlifting team Alyaksandr Hancharou thinks that the decision is unfair because Aramnau is an adult and should take the responsibility for his actions on his own”.
Alyaksandr Hancharou: "The coach is punished together with Aramnau. It is considered that the coach did not manage to prevent it and they should be punished together. However, the sportsman is an adult and should take the responsibility for his actions himself. That is why, I think it is at the very least unfair to deprive the coach of the scholarship”.
Hancharou did not mention the sum of the scholarship but that the money was good enough even for a businessman. According to “Interfax”, Aramnau used to get more than 15 millions a month.
The punishment is temporary and it is possible that Aramanu may return his and his coach’s money in autumn, says Alyaksandr Hancharou.
"The World Championship will be organized in South Korea in November. Aramnau should become a world champion and prove his level there. Then he and his coach will receive the scholarship back”.
However, he should be very careful anyway. Violations of the sports regime – drinking, brawl, detentions and other facts that lead to administrative and criminal responsibility are inadmissible for a Belarusian sportsman.
If Andrei Aramanu violates the regime once more, will they deprive him of the flat he received for his victory at the Olympics? – we asked Andrei Hancharou.
"A Minsk flat is a good reward for a gold Olympic medal. He deserved it. Nobody will take it away”.
