"Asocial" women sterilized under president's decree

At the same time, under the instructions from the Ministry of Health, the "asocial life style" is not subject to sterilization. The Euroradio reported yetserday that 78 percent of asocial women in the Niasvizh district were sterilized. This information was today confirmed by Sviatlana Davydzka, a gynecologist at the Niasvizh district hospital. She said two "asocial" women were sterilized this year alone. "One woman was from Staubtsy and another was from Niasvizh", she said.

The gynecologist said sterilization was carried out only with the consent of a woman. Only 10 percent of those on the "black lists" agree to sterilization.


Svitalana Davydzka also said that both the gynecologists and ordinary family doctors campaign for sterilization amongst the women that lead "asocial lifestyle", under the circular from the health ministry.



The Euroradio has learned that the health minstry indeed issued an instruction which regulates sterilization. But this document does not mention anyone described as "asocial elements". According to the gynecologist. doctors act in accordance with the president's decree No 18.

Local officials deny that 78 percent of asocial women were sterilized.

Well, this figure is yet to be confirmed, but at least two women were definitely sterilized, according to gynecologist Sviatlana Davydzka. One should also not forget that Decree No 18 is effective across the country.
