Belarsuian VAT not to increase on June 1
The value added tax will not be increased from 18% to 22% in Belarus on June 1. The senior deputy Minister of Taxation Uladzimir Paluyan has claimed it. He confessed that it was impossible to realize the project prepared by the Ministry of Finance in the few days left before the appointed date. According to Paluyan, the decision about increasing the VAT to 22% has not been taken yet.
“Interfax-West” reminds that the idea of increasing the VAT was approved by the senior vice Prime Minister of the Belarusian government Uladzimir Syamashka. He expressed an opinion that the step would protect the domestic market from “unwanted” foreign goods.
However, independent experts think that it will not solve the problem of import and will worsen the condition of Belarusian enterprises.
