Belarus army deserter spent 16 years hiding in forests
A deserter from the Belarusian army who ran away from barracks in the Vitsebsk region in early 1990s has spent 16 years hiding in woods and remote country houses. He had hidden for five years in the Hrodna region before the guy was detained when he showed up at the house of his relatives.
The deserter was tried and received a suspended service. Having learned that the military prosecutor was seeking to reopen the case, he got on the run again and was hiding in forests up to 2009.
Eventually, a military court reviewed the case and let the man go since the sentence term was already expired.
