Belarus unveils biometric passport
Belarus has developed a specimen of biometric passport, reports television channel ONT. It resembles only in color. Inside, there are pages with the ornament of Belarus' traditional Slutsk belts which has a microchip implanted. The information is read by special scanners.
The chip can contain up to 72 Kb of data, including the personal details, a digital photo and finger prints. Eye scanning has been ruled out.
Designers claim it is almost impossible to forge the Belarusian ID. If it is approved by the government, new passports will be issued in two years, primarily to those who often travel abroad.
