Belarusians aged from 18 to 55 obliged to be fingerprinted
Obligatory fingerprinting for all citizens liable for call-up and aged from 18 to 55 will be introduced in Belarus. The corresponding draft has been approved by the House of Representatives in two readings.
According to the Minister of Internal Affairs Anatol Kyulyashou, it will improve the work of the police and help prevent, investigate and reveal crimes, informs BelaPAN
According to the Minister, free-will fingerprinting is being conducted now. 1.4 million people were fingerprinted as of December 1. 850 thousand people liable for call-up were among them. About 22 thousand people have refused to go through the procedure.
Kulyashou noted that the fingerprinting campaign has helped reveal more than 3 thousand matches with fingerprints found in crime scenes. Among them were thefts, murders, rapes and robberies.
The law will come into power a month after its publication.
