Brest human rights activists prepare picket, meeting and manifestation for December 10
Uladzimir Malei has informed ERB about the actions appointed for Human Rights Day: Malei: We have sent three applications: for a demonstration in Moscow Street, a meeting in the only place for mass actions allowed by Brest City Executive Committee (“Locomotive” stadium) and a picket near “Belarus” cinema-house.
The applicants think that all the applications will be refused. However, they have informed about the place and time just in case: a demonstration has been ordered for 10 a.m. at the crossroads of Lenin Street and Masherov Avenue, a picket –at 12 p.m. and a meeting – at 2 p.m.
It is worth reminding that the Bresters who are not among the applicants complained to the UN Human Rights Committee in November. They wanted to appeal the authorities’ right to use only one place for mass actions in the city. It is far from all busy squares and streets and is often occupied by people using it for its primary purpose – sports activities.
