EU-funded project buys 18 electric bicycles for rural paramedics in Belarus

The European Union is funding a project that has purchased electric bicycles for 18 medical assistance stations in Sienno District, Belarus. Previously, medics used to travel from village to village on foot.

Medical assistant From Belitski station Victoria Astrouskaya could only visit patients in two villages in one day. She had to carry a heavy bag with medical equipment and medicines and walk many kilometers with it.

The electric bicycles were procured for 'No Time Wasting', a joint project by the Belarusian Union of Women and Sienno Hospital.

The travel time has now decreased for paramedics 3-5 times thanks to the electric bicycles. The number of visits has almost doubled. The district hospital does not need to send ambulances to patients as often anymore and has already saved over 200 litres of fuel, euprojects.by reports.
