Foreign minister Martynov discussed visas, financial aid in Brussels

Belarus' Foreign Minister Sergei Martynov has discussed a simplified visa regime between Belarus and the European Union during his visit to Brussels. He also raised the issue of financial assistance for Belarus.
The official news agency BELTA reports that the visit of the Belarusian foreign minister to Brussels took place on October 21-23. Martynov held talks with Jacques Barrot, Vice President of the European Commission as well as with Joaquin Almunia, EU Commissioner for Economic and Monetary Affairs.

During the meetings with Jacque Barrot, the parties discussed a wide range of issues, associated with the simplified visa regime between the European Union and Belarus, the reinforcement of borders and the fight against illegal migration. The European Commission vice president met with understanding the need for solving visa problems that  Belarus citizens faced after Belarus' neighbors -- EU member states -- joined the Schengen agreement. The sides agreed to hold working consultations between Belarus and European Commission's agencies over the visa regime and readmission.

The Belarusian foreign minister also discussed a macrofinancial assistance for Belarus with Joaquin Almunia, EU Commissioner for Monetary and Economic Affairs, reports Belapan.
