German Ambassador: EU is disappointed about Minsk not providing any signals since spring
"The European Union is a bit disappointed: we have not received the necessary signals from Minsk since spring”, - claimed the German Ambassador Gebhard Weiss in an interview with BelaPAN. "High-ranking representatives of the country promised that the positive process would continue. Maybe the reason for it is the period of summer vacations. The signals would be very important before November when Europe will take a decision about future relations and sanctions”, - said the German diplomat.
The Ambassador thinks that current signals from Minsk “should be connected with real actions”. “But what do we see? Demonstrators get detained at short actions, they leave police offices bruised. It is unacceptable for us. It is also forbidden by the Belarusian legislation”, - said the diplomat.
According to Mr. Weiss, historical experience shows that “it cannot be guaranteed that there will be no regression after positive development”. “It is very important to take the experience into account now”, - he claimed.
