A heavy 7.9 earthquake has hit Nepal not far from Katmandu. Houses and roads have been destroyed in the area. Witnesses are reporting a great number of victims. No official information has been presented yet.
The earthquake has provoked an avalanche on Everest - the world’s highest point attracting many mountain climbers.
The epicentre of the earthquake was less than 80 km away from the kingdom’s capital of Katmandu and 10 km below the surface. The shocks could be felt in India, news.ru refers to foreign information agencies.
