Henadz Fyadynіch: Independent trade unions are losing their people
The reason for it was the closing down of “Belarusian Trade Unions Movement” website. ERB has decided to find out who was to blame for the suspension of the resource. “Belarusian Trade Unions Movement” was the only website that had all the information about independent Belarusian trade unions. According to the leader of the trade union of radio-electronic industry workers Henadz Fyadynich, the problem of the website has already caused the Belarusian independent trade union movement to lose some of its people.
Henadz Fyadynіch: “This is a bad step because independent trade unions have to work without the information field praca-by.info used to be. It is already clear that independent trade unions have lost the people who visited and read the website”.
In the opinion on Henadz Fyadynich, the website stopped working due to the efforts of some Belarusian and Russian officials.
Henadz Fyadynich: Some people did not like the website. I think that both Belarusian and Russian officials are responsible for the suspension of the website”.
The only people benefiting from this situation are the International Federation of Trade Unions and the authorities, noted Mr. Fyadynich.
The leader of the Belarusian independent trade union of miners, chemical industry and oil industry workers Vasil Korabau thinks that the website “Belarusian Trade Unions Movement” could close down even due to the efforts of a single person.
Vasil Korabau: “It could be caused by a single person’s ambitions. Somebody did not like something and they started it all. This is my opinion. I am personally knocking on all doors because I want this website to function”.
According to the information of the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Unions Alyaksandr Yarashuk, the International Labour Organization is connected with the suspension of the website. However, the only connection is the fact that it financed the projected and could not continue doing it because of the crisis.
Alyaksandr Yarashuk: “All I know is that the International Labour Organization could not continue financing the website due to the current financial crisis and its complicated financial status”.
Mr Yarashuk refused to comment on the rumours about the website “Belarusian Trade Union Movement”.
Let us remind you that the website published the information about the refusal of the trade union of radio-electronic industry workers to join the Belarusian Congress of Democratic Trade Union in December 2008. Then the editorial staff of the website received a letter from the International Union of Grocers. They asked to consider the possibility of removing the article. You can read about the other backstreet intrigues in Alyaksandr Starykevich’s article “Solidarity”.
The former administrator of the website Natallya Verahschahina was informed about the expiration of the contract with the International Labour Organization 2 months before the suspension of financing. However, she was promised that a new contract would be concluded. Then she was told that there would not be any contract or financing a day before the website closed down. Ms. Verashchahina doubts that the economic crisis is to blame for it.
Natallya Verashchahіna: “The official version says that the International Labour Organization cannot continue financing the website. However, taking Alyaksandr Starykevich’s article into account, there are reasons for seeing a connection between the two events”.
The International Labour Organization has not informed Natallya whether the website will be able to resume work either.
