Leader of official trade unions joins Brest administration

An official regional newspaper “Zarya” has informed about it. The decision to appoint the head of regional trade unions Mikalai Basalai one of the 13 members of the regional Executive Committee was signed by the head of the regional administration Kanstantsin Sumar. A lawyer Ihar Kabalik has told ERB: “The authorities say that trade unions are independent from the authorities and that they protect workers’ interests. But this appointment testifies to the fact that it is a lie because the governor has appointed a representative of a seemingly independent structure member of the executive committee”.

Mikalai Basalai used to be a member of the so-called “nomenclature” and used to head executive institutions of different levels.
