Makey: EU cannot replace Russia for Belarus yet
Belarus Minister of Foreign Affairs has given an interview to the influential American media Washington Post.
Foreign Minister of Belarus, Uladzimir Makey, has given an interview to the influential American media Washington Post. Of course, the main questions concerned the geopolitical orientation of our country - East or West? Mr Makey stressed that Belarusians want to be friends with everyone, "and not to contrast the east, south, west and north."
"Will the improvement of your relationship with Europe be a threat to Russia?" asked an American journalist. The Foreign Minister noted that Belarus is not going to reject "friendship with Russia for the sake of friendship with Europe."
"Europe cannot replace Russia, at least today," said Uladzimir Makey. He said that Belarus will be with Russia in difficult times, just like Russia helped Belarus in difficult situations.
At the recent Riga summit of the Eastern Partnership, Belarus was represented by Uladzimir Makey.
