Post stamps with Marc Shagal's etchings unveiled in Minsk
The presentation of a souvenir set with 96 post stamps depicting the reproductions of Marc Shagal's etchings for Gogol's Ghost Souls poem and the quotes in Russian and English was held on October 16 at Centralny cinema theater in Minsk. The post stamps are in a box illustrated by Minsk-based artist Valery Liavunin as a book. Shagal created a series of 96 etchings in 1920s in Paris at the order of publisher Marchin. However, Gogol's book was published in the French language only in 1948 and immediately won a prize at the Venice Graphics Biennale. In 1999, the etchings were passed by Shagal's granddaughters to Marc Shagal Museum in Vitsebsk.
The post stamps were printed by a Minsk printing house in collaboration with Marc Shagal Museum. There are 5000 copies, reports the Belapan news agency.
