Reconstruction of Perestroika-25 (in pictures)

The exhibition of Belarusian posters from the Perestroika times has opened in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius. Six most controversial years of the Soviet times are reflected in 25 posters -- as much as controversial. The Reconstruction of Perestroika-25: Belarusian Poster 1985-1991 is a joint project between the European Humanities University and the Belarusian Designers' Union. In some way, the exhibition has already become our country's visit card after the posters were received with interest in Dresden, Berlin and Warsaw. Zmitser Surski, chairman of the Belarusian Designers' Union and project's co-author, "the allegorical nature and its message is worth a lot".

During the Perestroika times, posters were printed by state-owned publishing houses, and the state propaganda was their main purpose. However, in those times it became possible to label the system using its own means.

The exposition includes copies of real posters, sketches and slides. According to Yahor Surski, the author of the project, the concept of a 'mobile exhibition' was part of the idea.

25 pieces are just a tiny part of the collection owned by the Belarusian Designers' Union. The posters available could be enough to make an exhibition in a specialized poster museum.
