Belarus to begin training aerospace engineers
30 vacancies, including 10 for private students, have been opened at the radiophysic faculty at the Belarus State University.
Universities in Belarus plan to introduce new course in the new academic year. For instance, a new course of Aerospace and Radioelectronic Information Systems and Technologies has been opened at the radiophysics faculty at the Belarus State University. This profession is associated with hich-tech, including mobile networks, GPS systems and programming. The university has very high ambitions, but students at the faculty are quite sceptical about the new course, describing it as an attempt to jump over the head.
Student: “Frankly speaking, I don't think that we have huge perspectives. It would only be possible if we have some joint projects with Russia or Europe -- better with the West, Europe”.
Faculty deputy dean Siarhei Maly notes that there will be a total of 30 students for the new course, including 10 people who will have to pay $1000 per year for the course.
Other universities in Belarus have also announced about launching new course. The Linguistics University in Minsk will recruit a group for Turkish language studies. The Mahilyow State University will increase the number of course at the cost of programmers and geography/biology specialists.
Anyway, we will learn only in five years if Belarus becomes a space-exploration country and whether aerospace engineers will be in demand after the university.
