Serious violations during Saint Sophia restoration in Polack revealed
The State Control Committee calculated those violations caused over Br 650 mln ($ 60 K) loss to the budget.
As the Saint Sophia cathedral has a great historical and cultural importance for the country its restoration was conducted under the increased control. It was revealed that the private company that the local authorities signed for the matter had even no full-time qualified builders. The organization that won the tender hired the unemployed without asking whether they had any qualification as builders. The controllers underline: in such situation the quality of the work or meeting the deadlines was out of the question.
The term of reconstruction works was prolonged by two times. During the windows replacement there were violations which caused damage to the walls. Br 90 million was required additionally to correct the mistakes in the project.
According to Ejednevnik, the contractor included "all the possible things" into the price-list. The total overrating of the works amounted to Br 654 mln. The materials of the conducted checking have been passed to the law-enforcement authorities for the legal evaluation. Evaluation of the Polack officials' actions is also expected.
