State TV: 700 000 attend military parade in Minsk
The people remained near the Minsk City Hero stela to watch the fireworks on the occasion of Independence Day celebrations, Belarus state TV reports.
"Almost one million" attended the "mass festivities" in the capital city of Minsk. State TV channel Belarus 1 reports the main celebration of the independent Belarus was marked by a total of 1 300 000 people across Belarus.
It is worth noting that independent newspaper Nasha Niva estimates that 200 000 people took part in the celebrations or several times less the figure voiced by the state TV.
