Tusk and Putin meet in Katyn

Polish PM Donald Tusk and Russian PM Vladimir Putin visited the Katyn memorial where former Polish soldiers and officials were executed by NKVD, Stalin's secret police. It is believed that many Belarusians perished during the execution, reports www.onet.pl. After the Western Belarus and Western Ukraine was occupied by the Soviet troops, over 20,000 Polish military officers and soldiers and public servants were executed. They were burried reportedly near Kharkov, Smolensk and Kurapaty  near Minsk.

Gorbachev (the former USSR president) admitted that the people were executed by NKVD not by the German Nazis.

The Polish and Russian PMs layed flowers to those executed in the Katyn forest before holding the bilateral negotiations.
