Venetians bury their city
A humorous funeral of the city has been organized by inhabitants of Italian Venice. It population is decreasing rapidly. A mournful procession of three gondolas with a symbolic red coffin swam along the main canals and attracted the attention of numerous tourists.
ITAR-TASS informs that the action organized by civil activists was supposed to draw attention to the actual “dying out” in Venice. Its population has decreased from 300 to 60 thousand people since the middle of the last century.
The reason for the departure of natives is not the fear of the possibility of Venice’s drowning but very expensive accommodation and lack of infrastructure.
