Visa challenges for border-zone born students
The residents of a border-zone who went to study away in a different area of Belarus will not enjoy visa-free benefits to travel to Lithuania, Latvia or Poland, the Belarusian embassy in Vilnius told the European Radio for Belarus.
Embassy staff: “The permanent residence is a very important issue. If he or she resides in Minsk, I think a visa should be applied for, according to the usual procedures. If he or she is registered in a border zone (when there is a stamp), they can apply for a visa-free travel. But, when he or she is registered in Minsk, they will not be legitimate”.
Those living in the border zone will be able to cross the border line beginning from the next year only. The Belarusian embassy in Lithuania says a bilateral agreement is expected to be signed by the end-year.
Visa-free permit is possible on two conditions: residing in the border arear for at least 1-3 years and a proper justification of grounds for travel like family, education, scientific, sport, humanitarian reasons, etc. However, trans-border vendors will not apply for this agreement.
