Youngster who beat a Syrian citizen to remain in custody for 10 days
Investigative Committee says the young man will stay in police custody for further investigation.
The incident happened on a Minsk-Orsha commuter train on July 6. A Minsk resident, born in 1994, punched a medical post-graduate student from Syria, several times. A criminal case was opened under the hooliganism article in the Penal Code. The offender was arrested after video footage and photos from the commuter train appeared on the internet.
The youngster explains his actions were provoked, while Investigative Committee insists it was not an ethnic crime - rather an ordinary act of hooliganism.
The detainee is being treated as a suspect; charges are yet to be presented against him.
