10 signatures needed to become member of local election commission
Applications from citizens for membership in election commissions accepted by executive committees until July 19.
You can take part in the elections not just as a candidate, a member of the nominating group or a simple voter who puts his signature on the ballot on election day. Anyone can try to become a member of the election commission. Election commissions are just starting to be formed, reminds the CEC secretary Mikalai Lazavik.
Mr Lazavik: "To become a member of the local election commission, one simply needs to apply with 10 signatures of voters residing in the territory. Until July 19, the signatures can be sent to the appropriate executive committee where the documents will be received."
You can collect signatures of 10 people from your block of flats or even your relatives. The main thing for them is to reside in the territory of the region, where the electoral commission you want to join is placed.
According to Mr Lazavik, functions of the local election commissions are rather important. It is financial management of the promotional and election campaigns as well as general assistance and monitoring of the state bodies's compliance with the electoral legislation - election commissions of all levels should be provided rooms, communications, transport and so on. But most importantly, says CEC Secretary, local commission verify signatures in the signature sheets, and at the end of voting the local commission "sum up information from all the sites in their territory."
However, the final decision to include or not those interested in membership in the election commission will be taken by the local officials of the executive committee.
