Ales Mihalevich speaks about Square-2010: I did not expect to be arrested
December 19 was the sixth anniversary of the Square-2010. Euroradio has interviewed the main participants of those events. Here is our interview with Ales Mihalevich and some extracts from it:
"The Square decided my fate. My life can be divided into two parts – before and after the Square.”
"It is necessary of study the events of the Square. If you do not study history and do not make conclusions, you will keep making mistakes. I do not even have my own version of the events.”
"I did not urge people to come to the Square directly.”
"100 thousand signatures were collected in my support. Unfortunately, I cannot say anything for sure about the other candidates. I did not rule their teams. I do not know how many signatures they collected.”
"I do not think that we should be ashamed of the election -2010.”
"My election campaign budget? I can speak about it. But I would not like to comment on it in public. That campaign cost me a lot in all senses. It cost me a lot of money, I was jailed and had to emigrate.”
"I was suggested making a speech on TV. I read the text that Ramanchuk read later and they let me off.”
"The dispersal of the Square was advantageous for Russia. They wanted to stop Belarus’ cooperation with the West, to make everyone quarrel. However, the state leader always bears responsibility because they make decisions.”
"I did not expect the candidates to be arrested.”
"Nobody can be prepared for torture.”
