Belarus authorities seize part of Ales Bialiatski's apartment
World famous human rights defender Ales Bialiatski has received a notice from a Minsk's district compulsory execution department that 18 percent of the apartment he lives in together with his family is seized, reports human rights center Viasna.
Ales Bialiatski was convicted on November 24, 2011 and sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison with confiscation of property. The sentence included the seizure of the apartment in Minsk, used as the office by human rghts defenders from Viasna. That property had been seized prior to the trial of the human rights defender.
In November 2012, Minsk's Partyzanski District Court abolished the seizure from the part of the apartment in whch Bialiatski lived with his family following an appeal.
Now it looks as if the authorities seek to evict the human rights activist from his place of residence.
Bialiatski reckons these actions by the authorities are in respond to the recent appeal by the International Federation for Human Rights with regard to the failure of Belarus to follow the recommendation of the UN Human Rights Committee on his case.
The human rights defender has appealed the resolution on property seizure in court.
