Belarus, Azerbaijan set to sign new contract on military equipment supplies

Minsk and Baku are preparing a new contract to supply the next batch of Belarus-made military equipment to Azerbaijan, President Ilham Aliyev said after his meeting Monday with Belarus President Aliaksandr Lukashenka in Minsk, reports BELTA.
According to Mr Aliyev who visited Belarus on a state visit, a memorandum on understanding between the State Military Industry Committee of Belarus and the Defense Ministry of Azerbaijan was signed on bilateral cooperation in the supply of weapons and air defense equipment. The Azerbaijan leader expressed confidence that this memorandum would soon be transformed into a contract to procure military equiopment from Belarus.
Mr Aliyev stressed that his country was satisfied with having cooperated with Belarus in the defense sector and comended the Belarus-made military equipment for quality and effectiveness.
Two months ago, Belarus supplied a second batch of the Polonez multiple launch rocket systems to Azerbaijan. The Polonez MRLS can engage enemy personnel located in the open and in shelters, as well as unarmoured and armoured combat vehicles, special vehicles, command posts, artillery units, missile systems in addition to air defence missile systems and aircraft stationed at airfields with high precision at the range of between 50 and 300 km.
