Belarusian artist sells painting to Presnyakov and Podolskaya
Syarhei Chartsilin went to Moscow to choose the colours that would match the interior of the “star” flat Everything started when Syarhei Chartsilin organized an exposition in the gallery “Five Stars” in one of the central cinema houses of the Russian capital. Podolskaya and Presnyakov were shooting a video clip there that night. They saw Chartsilin’s works and decided to buy one of them - “Little elephants”.
Syarhei Chartsilin: "Nataliya looked through my works at first and then I met both Volodya and Nataliya. We met at my place in Vitsebsk during “Slavonic Bazaar”. They took part in it and dropped in on me”.
The singers discussed the terms with the artists and expressed their desire: we want the same painting but it should be bigger, it should cover a wall!
Syarhei Chartsilin: "The thing is that painting is small and they needed a bigger one to cover a wall. I answered that I could do it but it would be better to look at the interior to use matching colours. They said: “Okay, come to our house in Moscow.” I asked: how, when? They said: “Well, come tomorrow or the day after tomorrow. We invite you”. So, I went there”.
That’s what stars’ invitations are like – just come. Stars do not bother how a Belarusian artist of modest means will come to Moscow and where he will live. Fortunately, Syarhei had an acquaintance in Moscow who allowed him to spend a night in her flat.
Syarhei Chartsilin: "I brought about 8 paintings with me. But they bought only one…”.
Thus Syarhei Chartsilin got to the home front of the Russian show-biz – he saw how TV stars lived.
Syarhei Chartsilin: "There are rich people who live better than them… They have an ordinary flat in a closed, paled place. It is not Rublyovka. They are normal ordinary people. If I had not known they were shown on TV I would have thought they were ordinary people”.
The stars did not even invite Chartsilin to have tea with them.
Syarhei Chartsilin: "They had just given a concert or something – they were so tired. I did not want to trouble them either. Their life is like… “Slavonic Bazaar”, then “Jurmala”, then something else. They run back and fourth, I did not want to strain them, we just talked and they bought my work…”
We asked Syarhei Chartsilin if it was profitable to sell paintings to stars.
Syarhei Chartsilin: "Yes, of course! That’s fine! However, there are people who could offer more for such work”.
Syarhei Chartsilin refused to tell us the exact sum. He said he was hoping that Pugachyova would probably like to buy some of his works.
Syarhei Chartsilin: "I am waiting now; maybe someone else would like my paintings – maybe, Alla Pugachyova?”…
