Court rules Pavel Sheremet’s bank safe deposit box can be unlocked
The investigators of Pavel Sheremet’s murder will be allowed to open his safe deposit box in Sberbank, according to the ruling by Kiev's Pecherski District Court. Investigators will also copy the retrieved documents.
“There is a real threat that the documents contained there may be destroyed,” the court said to justify the decision as information from Sheremet’s documents may help solve the crime and reveal a motive for the murder.
Belarus-born journalist Pavel Sheremet was killed in the centre of Kiev on July 20 when a bomb exploded in his car. Investigators are elaborating on several leads that include the reporter’s professional activities, destabilization of the situation in Ukraine, personal hostility and killers’ mistake (they could be trying to kill Sheremet’s partner Alena Prytula).
