Fewer that 7.5K WWII veterans remain in Belarus

The number of the World War II (also known as the Great Patriotic War) veterans in Belarus has significantly dropped in Belarus. As of January 1, 2018, there were 9,030 people, and as of October 1 last year, 7,457 people lived, reports TUT.by quoting the data from the Ministry of Labor.
In Belarus, the opinion of war veterans is often notoriously cited to block societal reforms.
The biggest number of the Great Patriotic War veterans in October last year lived in Minsk (2,104), and the smallest one -- in the Hrodna region (526). In the Mahiliou region there were 712, in the Vitsebsk region - 1,021, in the Brest region - 971, in the Homiel region - 1,109, in the Minsk region - 1,014.
Only five years ago (in April, 2014), 20,694 veterans lived in Belarus. In 2006 there were over 72 thousand of them.
As of October 1, 2018, there were 400 people in Belarus over 100 years old. The biggest number of centenarians lived in Minsk (63), as well as in Vitsebsk and Hrodna regions - 62 each.
