Former director of Minsk tractor plant Mihail Lyavonau is released
A former director of Minsk Tractor plant Mihail Lyavonau has been released after 8 years of imprisonment today, on January 8. Lyavonau said to Radio “Liberty” that he was supposed to be released on January 6 but was detained for two more days.
Let us remind you that Lyavonau was arrested on January 7, 2002. The Supreme Court sentenced him to 10 years of imprisonment according to four articles of the Criminal Code including bribery. 2 years of the term were removed after an amnesty. Mihail Lyavonay has never pled guilty. The former director of Minsk Tractor Plant refused to write a petition for mercy in prison although many imprisoned business managers were able to get released earlier that way.
