Freedom Day Organizer: No events will be held in Bangalore Square

“Nobody is going to the Bangalore Square, we are not organizing any events there, because it’s a cursed place, or, to put it in a fashionable way, it is lame,” said one of the Freedom Day organizers, Pavel Belavus, commenting on  Lukashenka's ban to hold a holiday event at Dynamo stadium ".

Answering the questions of the Euroradio journalist during the Big Talk, the head of state unequivocally stated: "There will be no celebrations at the Dynamo stadium." He also called the initiative of the celebrating the holiday at the Dynamo stadium a "rally" and "personal insult" to him, adding: "Get together at the Bangalore Square."

“Holding the Freedom Day at the Bangalore Square is a mockery of those people for whom independence is a really important value,” says Pavel Belavus. “There are a lot of decent venues in the city, for example, a spot near the Sports Palace, on Freedom Square, where every week interesting city events are held. We hope that some of those politicians, public activists, journalists who are participating in the Big Talk today will ask Lukashenka if it is realistic to consider other venues besides Bangalore Square. This can now be quickly and efficiently resolved."

Pavel Belavus also noted that the celebration of Freedom Day is not a rally:

“We want to hold not rallies, but a holiday dedicated to our independence, traditions, culture, history of Belarus. Today it is important for a really large number of Belarusians. If Lukashenka opposes this, it means that he speaks against Belarusians for whom this is important. It is unpleasant. We just don’t want any confrontations, but we want to show that if there are people for whom Freedom Day matters, they need to be heard."
