Gas price in Q2 might be set by union state's cabinet of ministers

The price of the Russian gas for Belarus in the second quarter of 2008 might be set at the meeting of the Belarus-Russia union-state's council of ministers, Belarus's first vice prime minister Uladzimir Syamashka said. The meeting will take place on March 21 in Minsk. "This issue will be discussed in a close circle", Syamashka said.

The Belarus high-ranking official said Belarus has been in talks with Gazprom and the Russian government over a new price for the Russian gas.

In early 2008, the price rose up to $119 from 100 for 1000 cubic meters. Under the deal, that price was effective for the first quarter if the year.

In February, Belarus Prime Minister Siarhei Sidorski stated that Belarus would pay $119 per 1000 cubic meters of the Russian gas up to the year end. He would refer to the agreement between the presidents of Russia and Belarus, reports Belapan.
