Hrodna, Lida residents to travel to Vilnius visa-free
In return, the residents of the Lithuanian capital will be able to visit the Belarusian cities near the border without a visa in their passports. Two countries are soon to sign an agreement on the simplified border-crossing procedures, Belarus' Ambassador in Vilnius Uladzimir Drazhyn told Belta news agency. Ihar Schatsinin, a spokesman for Belarus' State Border Control Committee, told the European Radio for Belarus, that a bilateral deal with Lithuania was almost signed. The residents of border towns will have special IDs to travel crossborder without visas.
“We are finalizing the talks with Lithuania and will soon sign a relevant agreement. The border areas will be up to 50 km. For instance, the residents of Lithuania will be able to visit border towns in Belarus. The residents of Hrodna and Lida will also travel to Lithuanian border towns. We are talking about special IDs that will be issued to the residents of the areas near the border”.
