Human rights defender Tamara Syarhei is detained in Minsk
Lawyer and human rights defender Tamara Syarhei was detained in Minsk on June 23, BelaPAN reports. It happened near the Kurapaty Tract at 9.30 a.m., the woman told journalists. She lives not far from that place.
The detained was delivered to Minsk Central District Department of the Interior. According to policemen, it was connected with the complaint that Syarhei had sent to Minsk police chief Alyaksandr Barsukou on May 16. The human rights defender complained about policemen’s actions at the picket held in Freedom Square on March 31.
Syarhei is in the District Department of the Interior now. The arrested woman has demanded that they made up a report about her detention.
Syarhei could be detained because of the picket that had to be held near the Palace of the Republic on June 23. The Fifth All-Belarus National Assembly was held there. Activists of the initiative Against Lawlessness In Courts And Public Prosecutor's Offices had been planning to organize the picket. Tamara Syarehei is also an activist of this initiative.
