Ice hockey: Dynamo Minsk's Canadian stopper Jeff Glas ready to become Belarusian
Goalkeeper of the Minsk-based ice hockey club Dynamo Jeff Glas said that he would be pleased to take Belarusian citizenship to be able to play for the national team. This season the 29-year-old Canadian has played 14 games, of which 6 were wins and let in 2.51 goals per game. The saves factor was 91.6%.
In an interview with "R-Sport" Glas said that in Minsk had only positive emotions from the city and the team. "I see that the whole country is rooting for the Belarus hockey and every fan knows the players in person, the stands always provide mad support, and the atmosphere at the matches is on the par with that of Canada," he said.
Jeff Glass says that if he was offered to take Belarusian citizenship, he would agree, and for him it would be a great honor to play for the national team of Belarus at the World Championship.
Earlier, in 2011, three Canadian hockey players - Geoff Platt, Charles Lingle and Kevin Lalande - received the Belarusian citizenship. In 2014, in Belarus naturalized American Nick Bailey and this year the Belarusian passport was given to the Ukrainian Oleksandr Materukhin.
