KGB confirms detention of former Russian officials in Belarus

КДБ пацвердзіў затрыманне ў Беларусі былых расійскіх чыноўнікаў

On Friday, the KGB confirmed the detention of the former Russian officials in Belarus. According to Euroradio and the Russian newspaper Kommersant, the former employees (the chief and his deputy) of the Judicial Department of the Supreme Court of Russia in the Moscow region Evgeniy Titov and Valery Kuzminich were detained soon after entering the territory of Belarus. They are accused of a large scale fraud - using forged documents, the officials stole the money allocated from the budget for salaries of court interpreters (about 1.5 billion Russian rubles).

Titov and Kuzminich were put on the wanted list. They first lived in Spain, and then in Italy. They came to Belarus to meet with a relative. But the Russian FSB listened to their telephone conversations and found out about their movements. As a result, the head of the KGB press service, Dzmitry Pabyarzhyn told BELTA there was a "bilateral cooperation with Russia." And the former Russian officials ended up under arrest in Belarus. It happened as early as the end of August. The Prosecutor's office of the country will decide on their extradition to their homeland.
