Lawmakers pass law to cut social benefits

The Belarus's legislators on May 23 passed in two readings and within 1.5 hours (!) the legislation on regulation of social benefits and guarantees.
101 lawmakers voted in favor and 1 deputy (apparently, Volha Abramava who spoke out her position during discussion) voted against the legislation. The draft law is soon to be tabled to the Council of the Republic, the upper chamber of the National Assembly of Belarus.

The legislation envisages the abolishment of benfits and preferences for the former victims of the Nazi concentration camps. Military servicemen and police offecers will also see their benefits reduced, under the law.

Students, schoolchildren and war veterans will also be deprived of reduced fares for public transport. Free drugs for children before 3 years old will also be abolished, reports Interfax.
