Lukashenka abolishes foreign travel permissive stamp from Jan 1, 2008

Belarus abolishes the notorious permissive stamp for foreign travel in passports effective from January 1, 2008, according to the decree signed by Alexander Lukashenka on December 17.
It means that the passports of Belarusian citizens travelling abroad will be valid for foreign travel without this stamp.

To ensure efficient controls at the state border of this country, Belarus is developing instead a database of the Belarusian nationals who are restricted from leaving the country.

The decree also has a provision that sets out the procedure for maintaining this database and lists those government agencies that contribute their information to this database, reports Belta.
