Lukashenka eyes Jeely as 'people's car' for Belarus
Alyaksandr Lukashenka conducted a meeting dedicated to the realization of the investment project for the joint production of automobiles BelJee on Monday, November 30. This is his everlasting dream (Belarus needs to provide people with domestic cars), he confessed. The project will be realised with the help of China.
"Having looked at the production process, we decided that will also start producing the cars with China’s help and on the basis of their technologies,” BELTA quotes Lukashenka. “It does not mean that we will simply copy their car. We will use our own experience and achievements in the production of trucks and car details. The National Academy of Sciences and the applied science have this experience. That is why we will need to improve the car and build a new plant called BelJee.”
The Chinese credit is being used to build the plant, Alyaksandr Lukashenka noted. The enterprise is expected to produce up to 60 thousand cars a year. The number will increase to 120 thousand cars when the second line is launched.
The main problem is to find a market for the cars, Lukashenka said. If we provide the domestic market with them, we will need to look for markets abroad. The plant will produce ‘high-quality cars’. The President stressed. “We will make the staff do it,” he said.
